OLD #17 BEER BATTER WALLEYE

Homemade Old #17 beer battered Walleye

My brother in law and wife are some major walleye catchers. One day we will have more time to fish but until then here is a favorite way we like to fry our walleye at home.

1 8.5oz package of beer batter fish breading
Old #17 Rack Shack Rub
1 cup of your favorite beer
3 cups frying oil
1/2 cup of milk more if needed
Tartar sauce (optional)
Lemon

My uncle taught me a trick to soak fish fillets in milk to get rid of any potential fishy taste. It works and I’ve been doing it for 15 plus years.

Mix your beer and batter mix along with a 1/2 cup of Old # 17 rub. Place fish in batter. Before the grease release, make sure your batter has covered the filet and the excess has dripped off.

Make sure oil is hot but not too hot. Should be medium to medium-high heat on stovetop.

Gently place in hot oil and fry for 3 mins a filet.

Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.

Enjoy with lemon and tartar sauce or however, you like your Minnesota State fish prepared.

It’s a real treat.
